Windows 10 Support Ending Next Month! Here’s What It Means For You

September 01, 2025

Important Notice: Microsoft will officially end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. Although your Windows 10 PC will continue to operate beyond this date, Microsoft will cease providing essential updates and services, including security patches and technical assistance, that keep your system secure and running smoothly.

Why Business Owners Must Act Now

  • Heightened Security Threats: Without ongoing updates, your systems become increasingly vulnerable to cyberattacks, malware, and viruses, putting your critical business data at serious risk. Upgrading your operating system is essential to protect your company.
  • Software Compatibility Challenges: Many applications are designed to work with the latest operating systems. After Windows 10 support ends, some programs may malfunction or stop working entirely, disrupting your workflow.
  • Regulatory Compliance Risks: Businesses handling sensitive data or operating under strict regulations risk non-compliance if they continue using outdated software, potentially leading to fines or legal complications.

Your Upgrade Options

Microsoft recommends upgrading to the latest Windows version before support ends. However, many Windows 10 devices may not meet Windows 11's hardware requirements, causing upgrade errors.

If your PC is incompatible with Windows 11, consider these alternatives:

  • Purchase a new PC that supports Windows 11
  • Enroll in Extended Security Updates (ESU) for temporary protection
  • Switch to a Linux operating system as an alternative
  • Continue using Windows 10 despite risks (not recommended)

Before proceeding with any option, always back up your important files to prevent data loss during the transition.

Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10

If immediate upgrading isn't feasible, Microsoft offers Extended Security Updates for Windows 10, but only for one year post end-of-life.

To access ESU, you can either pay a $30 fee or redeem 1,000 Microsoft Reward points. Alternatively, a free option requires enabling Windows Backup to sync your data to OneDrive, which offers 5 GB free storage but may require additional space purchases.

Don't delay—register for ESU before the October 14 deadline to maintain your system's security.
